A recipient of various awards, including an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award and the Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she has consistently ranked among the world's highest-paid actresses. Time magazine named her one of the top 100 influential people in the world in both 2006 and 2015 and Forbes named her one of the World's 100 Most Powerful Women in 2021 and 2019. Forbes has named her the World's Richest Actress in 2021. Her net worth is believed to be $400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in 1991 as she was a teenager. In 1999, she achieved her debut with the leading role of a support in Cruel Intentions. She was also known for playing Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. She gained wider recognition for her role as Elle Woods in the comedy Legally Blonde (2001) and its 2003 sequel, and for her part in the romantic comedy Sweet Home Alabama (2002). In 2005, she received critical acclaim and won the Academy Award for Best Actress for portraying June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a slump in her career in which her only box office success was the romantic drama Water for Elephants (2011), Witherspoon made a comeback by directing and producing Cheryl Strayed in the drama Wild (2014), which was nominated again for Best Actress at the Academy Awards. Witherspoon continues to work mostly in the field of television, and has produced and starred in many female-led adaptations of literature under Hello Sunshine. This includes Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show which is the Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). She was awarded the Primetime Emmy Award in Outstanding Limited Series for the very first time. She also created the adaptations to film Gone Girl (2014) and Where the Crawdads Sing (2022).Witherspoon is also the owner of a clothing company, Draper James, and she is involved in both women's and children's advocacy organizations. She sits on the Children's Defense Fund's Board and was also honored to serve as the chairperson of the Avon Foundation's women's cause charity in 2007.
